Misplaced landscape Furniture # 1
Iceland, 2007
basket
This project misplaces a piece of urban furniture relative to its functionality.By placing a basket in front of a waterfall I intended to evoke a potential player, by giving him or her an “I feel lucky” try-on. Either the player gets the ball inside the basket and scores or he or she misses the basket and the ball will fall into the water. In everyday life, misplaced objects can give rise to a feeling of strange familiarity, described by Freud as “uncanny”. I find this very playful in the way it challenges our awareness of the surroundings and might somehow generate an emotional limbo.
